Pargat Singh's letter bomb to CM Badal

Suspended SAD legislator and Olympian Pargat Singh from Jalandhar cantt assembly constituency on Friday wrote a scathing letter to the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

He accused Sukhbir Badal, the president of SAD, of running the party in a dictatorial manner by forgetting the ‘real Ideology’ of the Akali Dal.

“Akali Dal’s ideology is that me maran panth jeewe, panth base me ujhran (I may die but Panth must live, Panth must remain till eternity) but now reverse is happening… it is working on the ideology of Panth bhaven mare ya ujhre, mere lahna jynoda te basda rahe (Panth may die or get uprooted but I should flourish)”, wrote Pargat

He wrote that he was surprised that the SAD president had not learnt from the Chief Minister whom he called “full of humility”. He said that Akal Takhat (the highest temporal seat of Sikh religion) had seen the maximum loss under the current SAD leadership.

“Till date I have not received any formal letter from the party regarding my suspension and only I came to know about it through media. Now such an act is nothing but undemocratic, one sided, insensitive and dictatorial,” the letter read, adding that if raising the voice of his people was anti-party activity, “then I accept it”.

He said that the hands of party workers and leaders were tied but ‘under currents’ of simmering resentment must be understood which could prove disastrous for the party in future.

In the letter, Pargat pointed out that the people would turn and question Parkash Singh Badal if the “party and the panth” deteriorated as “all this is happening under your patronisation”.

He also wrote that when he had raised the issue of rampant corruption in the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, the party did not pay any attention.

Punjabis, who are known internationally for their hard work, sacrifice and innovation, are feeling humiliated now due to the system in Punjab,” it read.

He apologised to the CM if his letter hurt him but that he had no choice. A copy of this letter was posted to all member of SAD.
