Firing in Faridkot over property dispute


Nine people were injured in a clash over possession of a piece of land in Faridkot on Saturday. Members of the rival factions made use of swords and guns.

Two women are among the injured.

The incident happened in the evening when a group led by Akali leader Parnam Maur, along with his supporters, went to take possession of a disputed plot at Balmiki Chowk.

Surinder Singh, occupant of the disputed plot, said Maur, along with his men, came to take possession of the plot and fired at him and his family members. He stated that attackers smashed a CCTV camera installed on the plot and assaulted women members of his family.

Maur said he went to the site to meet his relatives, when Surinder Singh and his kin opened fire at him. He said three men accompanying him were injured.

The injured were admitted to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College. Harjit Singh, Surjit Kaur, Yadvinder Kaur and Paramjit Singh reportedly suffered serious injuries.

According to the eyewitnesses, as many as 20 shots were fired from both sides.

DSP SS Brar said, “We will investigate the case and book the guilty soon.”
