Justice Markandey Katju attended a conference organized by Sikhs for Human Rights today on December 10 in Chandigarh. Conference isorganized to address recent human rights violations and growing intolerance in Punjab. Conference took place at the Makhan Shah Lubhana Hall, Sector 30, Chandigarh.
Few days back, In a post made on Facebook, Justice Kajtu shared that he is well aware of the corruption within the Punjab Government. “For quite some time I have been receiving reports of the autocratic and zalim behaviour of the Badal govt. This cannot be tolerated anymore, and must stop,” he stated.
He added, “In a democracy, the people are supreme, and they have a right to criticize the govt. So the bureaucrats and police officers of Punjab who do such illegal acts of arresting and slapping trumped up charges against critics of the State Govt. at the behest of their political masters are accessories to high crimes.”
Justice Markandey Katju has a track record for addressing human rights violations. In 2014, he had given a statement seeking release of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar on humanitarian basis.
