The term 'bricking' with regards to an iOS device means it's in limbo and cannot boot on its own. Now this isn't something that an average user would encounter, unless they decide to tinker around with the device (Jailbreaking, installing Cydia and the likes). However, a YouTube user discusses how something as simple as changing the date on your smartphone could brick your iPhone.
More specifically, changing the date to January 1, 1970 will supposedly brick your device to the point that it cannot be recovered unless you manually disassemble the device and disconnect the logic board from the battery. It has been mentioned that this has something to do with the Unix Timestamp, althoughApple is yet to officially comment on this.
This bug applies to devices running the Apple A7, A8, A8X, A9 and A9X chipsets. This essentially covers every iOS device that was launched along with or after the iPhone 5s, including the iPhone 6s, the 6s Plus as well as the iPad Pro. Devices with older 32 bit chipsets are not facing this issue apparently.
It is hoped that Apple will come up with a fix for this particular bug soon, thus putting an end to the unrest of the customers once and for all. If you own an iPhone that features any of the aforementioned chipsets, make sure you steer clear of the Date and Time section of the device, at least until there's a fix for this.
